Oldland Flour

The three photos below show us collecting wheat from Snowerhill Farm, Betchworth, Surrey on 2nd October 2023.

Our current batch of wheat being milled is 2024 harvest “Skyfall” that was collected from Newhouse Farm, Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex on 22nd August 2024.

We collected one tonne of 2025 harvest “Crusoe” from Endlewick Farm, Arlington, East Sussex on 21st August 2025 and this will supplement our existing stock of 2024 harvest “Skyfall” to last us well into 2026.

When the new grain stock arrives at the Mill it may need to be put through our Winnower first to remove unwanted pieces of wheat stalk and other debris. A pre-collection inspection of new harvest grain will decide if this is necessary or not.

Watch the winnower in action (may require additional software) here.

After this, it is loaded into sacks, weighing approximately 20Kg, and raised up to the Bin Floor storage area using the Sack Hoist.

The grain passes from the Bin Floor down to the Grain Hopper, from which it feeds into the “Eye” of the Runner Mill Stone. The grain is ground to the desired texture and flows from the Tun down a “Spout” to the Spout Floor below. There it is collected in sacks, weighed, labelled and securely stored for later packing. A full sack of freshly ground flour weighs approximately 21 Kg.

All flour currently being produced is from 2024 harvest “Skyfall” wheat stock.
